Tried It Tuesday: Nyx Round Lipsticks and Soft Matte Lip Creams Review

12:30 AM

I've only just begun trying new lip colors out, and I'm still playing it safe as you can see here (pinks and reds).  I bought a few Nyx lipsticks from Digital Traincase, an online store that was in the last Feature Friday.

Product photos and lip swatches after the jump.

Nyx Round Lipsticks

NYX Round Lipstick is our classic lipstick for all-year round. The mineral-based emollient formula offers a beautiful velvet texture, saturated color and it resists wear and smudging. It’s your go-to lipstick. From Pure Nude to Pink Lyric to Chic Red, Round Lipstick is available in a jaw-dropping 144 shades.
The lippies arrived securely wrapped in foam to prevent breakage.

These are the shades I chose, based on the swatches I saw online.

I like that the cases have clear bottoms so you can immediately see what color you're holding.

The bullets are super creamy. The danger here is that they're so soft they can easily melt and become malformed, but I love how easy they are to apply -- like painting on your lips!

And now for the lip swatches. On the left are my very pigmented :( bare lips; on the right are the swatches.

Tea Rose is very much a My Lips But Better (MLBB) shade. It's great for everyday use.

Fig is a little too pink for me. It's for hanging out with the girls. :)

Snow White is a dark red (darker in real life than in the photo) that would be great for pinup looks or events. Forgive the messy application; I'm still learning how to apply red lipstick. (It just goes all over the place!)

These lipsticks are very pigmented and are a breeze to apply. There is no scent. Staying power is average; one meal and they ring around your lips. I am definitely trying more shades.

Soft Matte Lip Creams

Neither lipstick nor lip gloss—this is matte lip cream. A new kind of pout paint that goes on silky smooth and sets to a matte finish. Soft Matte Lip Cream is surprisingly durable and, unlike some matte lipstick formulas, also moisturizing. Available in 11 lip colors.

Digital Traincase also had a booth at the recent 5th Phil-Cosmetics Expo, where I purchased some lip creams.

I chose Addis Ababa and Amsterdam.

Addis Ababa is a bright pink that goes great with colorful outfits.

You don't have to wonder why this shade is called Amsterdam. It's a warm really bright red perfect for streetwalkers.

The lip creams are slightly more sheer and dry matte. They look like lip stains, quite natural. There's a strong sort of candy smell that's kind of addicting, but may bother some. Staying power is similar to the round lipsticks.

The Wrap

Nyx Cosmetics are available at various online stores such as Digital Traincase, where the round lipsticks retail for PhP120 and the matte lip creams for PhP 250 (preorder price).

  1. The tea rose is nice on you! I think atchie will like the fig one because she's been on the lookout for a nice visibly pink lipstick (not sure if she's looking up to now).

As for applying red lipstick, I've experienced that and mygod I looked like Joker when I applied it straight from the tube. It's way better if you use a lip brush.

    1. It's my favorite safe color as well. :) I think I scheduled this post wrong, because it's only Monday! Whoops. Avon also has some nice moisturizing pink lipsticks.
