Cold Weather Skin Saver: Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX

6:00 AM

The Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX is somewhat of a cult favorite in Asia. It's an overnight mask that delivers intense hydration for brighter, rejuvenated skin the next morning. Knowing I would be exposed to colder, drier temperatures, this had to go in my luggage.

Light gel-type texture provides intensive hydration, vitality, and brightening effect while restoring skin with deep relaxation

Texture is goopy, it holds its shape for some time but is still very easy to spread. I scoop a little out with the included spatula, apply a light or heavy layer depending on my state of (de)hydration, and go to bed. It takes about 5 minutes to sink in here in the cooler climate of Carmel Valley, but in the Philippines it took much longer, maybe 20-30 minutes. I love that I don't have to wash it off and I can go right to sleep. I wake up with a plumper, brighter face, as opposed to the usual flaky dull portrait of poor sleep.

One of the best things about this mask is its scent. The ~patented~ Sleepscent™ aromatic essence really does help me relax. I can't describe it but somehow it smells like flowers and clean water, like bowl of water that is host to spring blooms. Very refreshing. The perfume is derived from essential oils of orange flower, rose, ylang ylang, and sandal wood.

Caveat: In the Philippines, I found this a little too heavy. Not sticky or greasy, but heavy. Take note, I slept in an un-airconditioned room in 34-degree heat. I had to apply a very light layer so as not to wake up to a shiny shiny mug. Now that I'm 11-degree weather, I'm using a thicker layer and it is doing me a world of good. I use it about twice a week, preferably after washing off a clay mask, to restore hydration.

Mine was straight from Korea so the ingredients were in Hangul, but Nikki (AskMeWhats) has them on her review. Also, the English website says that it is enriched with beta-glucan and ceramide (for hydration), Hunza apricot extracts (for brighter skin), and recoverine (promotes cell turnover).

The Wrap

Pros

Hydrating, restorative, and non-greasy
Relaxing, refreshing scent
No need to wash it off before bed
Perfect for temperate climates

Cons

Pricey
Oily-skinned individuals may prefer a lighter mask

I got the Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX from its homeland of Korea but it's available at in Laneige Philippines boutiques and kiosks PhP 1,200 for 80 ml. I know Sample Room also had samples of this at 20 ml.
