I'm very excited to invite you to Nifty Nibs, a small but comprehensive calligraphy workshop for beginners next month! I've been getting inquiries about how to get started in this wonderful hobby, and this is the perfect venue to address all those questions. Plus it will be at the new Ellana Minerals Showroom, where you can swatch and test everything from this newly relaunched homegrown mineral makeup brand!

Participants will receive a calligraphy kit complete with everything you need to get started in the art of dip pens, including an instructional booklet written by myself. You are also welcome to bring any supplies you already have so you can practice with those. Because I have a limited number of materials and I want every kit to be complete, slots are very limited. Agenda

This workshop is designed for those who have never used a flex or italic nib before. We'll start with the basics, including the types of calligraphy, the difference between dip pens and fountain pens, how to assemble your pen, caring for your nibs, and dipping your pen in ink.


You will practice both flex calligraphy (as seen above) and italic calligraphy (as seen below), beginning with exercises and letter forms.


You will also learn how to use different media as ink, including watercolor and gouache. The workshop kit will include different types of paper so you can see which ones handle which types of ink and nib best.

Lastly, you will learn to develop your own style of calligraphy, in tune with the modern style that has become popular in recent years.
