Rapid Review: Empire State: A Love Story (Or Not) by Jason Shiga

Empire State: A Love Story (Or Not) by Jason Shiga is an aborted love story about a guy struggling to climb out of the friend zone. Funny and bittersweet, it's full of missed chances and blunt honesty. The art is simple, almost like a a Sunday newspaper comic strip, the clean lines giving focus to the dialog. While it doesn't exactly end on a fairy tale note, it leaves you with the satisfying feeling that Jimmy the protagonist has grown for the better.

This scene cracked me up because I was doing just this in 2003, only with EditPad instead of NotePad. CSS, man -- it's a gamechanger.
